Expert: Pro-European parties are losing support in Moldova
Chisinau, August 21 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – In Moldovan society, support for the parties of the pro-European alliance is falling and there is a desire for change. The executive director of the Foreign Policy Association, Victor Chirila, told Europa Libera radio station.

He believes that the Moldovan authorities are overly optimistic about the electoral field, while liberalization of the visa regime and association with the European Union do not at all guarantee victory in the elections.
The authorities believe that “the people will be grateful to them for liberalizing the visa regime and signing an association agreement with the EU. But the mood in the country is completely different,” the expert said.
“I had a reason to travel, meet with local authorities, with citizens from the south and north of Moldova, and I noted that the realities are different: popular support, even among those who support pro-European leaders, is falling. And there is a desire for changes in society,” he said, noting that various sociological studies, which “are like mushrooms after rain,” will not show this trend.
Chirila said that “the resentment of citizens is deep,” and only some politicians are aware of this, but continue to rely on election propaganda and election gifts.
At the same time, the expert believes that the leaders of the ruling coalition have lost the trust of the European Union, although they remain strong figures in Moldova.
“I don’t think these leaders could play a leading role in relations with the EU. The European Union has no confidence in them. I don’t know what they could do to wash away all their sins before public opinion and the EU. Perhaps they have a chance in the form of promoting new leaders who have not compromised themselves, who are honest, who can change the face of these parties and give inspiration to the ideals they promoted,” concluded the analyst quoted by Moldnews.
