Expert: Flirting with NATO will not save Lukashenko – The Union State is being built
The exercises that are taking place these days in Belarus together with British marines, - these are not random things, but a clear signal from Russia that the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko does not want integration into the Union State and is drifting towards the West.
At the same time, the struggle for the creation of the Union State continues, despite all the resistance of the Belarusian president.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Igor Shishkin stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Such things do not happen by chance. This is not the same level. And this is not about the fact that Belarus is cooperating with the West - this is a signal that Belarus, or more precisely, Mr. Lukashenko and his entourage, do not really want to fill the Union State with real content.
At the same time, you need to understand that recently a number of other signals have appeared that Russia’s efforts in this direction are yielding results. Therefore, we need to treat this accordingly as a serious signal, a conscious action by Lukashenko and his team.
Just like Lukashenko’s completely conscious action was the statement that the Great Patriotic War was not a war of the Belarusian people, but someone else’s war.
But at the same time, there is no need to fall into alarmism and assume that the train is leaving, it’s all over, it’s too late to drink Borjomi, and so on.
