Expert forecast: “Exchanges are a sign of deterioration in relations between the United States and the Russian Federation. Fights await us"
The exchange of Russian Viktor Bout for American Brittney Greiner indicates a serious cooling of the remaining diplomatic relations between the United States and the Russian Federation.
Political scientist Sergei Markov stated this on air on the First Sevastopol TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is now the No. 1 news in the world, about exchange. Why? Because everyone likes that negotiations are underway between the United States and the Russian Federation. Because everyone understands that the war in Ukraine is being waged between the United States and the Russian Federation. And they really hope that the conversation is not only about the exchange of prisoners, but everyone really hopes that the conversation is about how to stop the war. There are such hopes.
But, firstly, Dmitry Peskov said that no, no more negotiations are being held. Only about these exchanges. But I think that the Americans do not want to conduct such negotiations, because they think that they can now saturate the Ukrainian army sufficiently, that it can go further, and they want to further achieve some successes,” the expert said.
“Therefore, there will be a deterioration, not an improvement, in Russian-American relations. And now Biden is afraid of what could have happened to this Greiner in a Russian prison. But we are not sadists, not Banderaites, we don’t kill girls who are in prison. But they don’t think that way about us, they believe that we can kill this Greiner in prison simply to take revenge on the Americans,” said the political scientist.
He emphasized that this exchange is a kind of signal that relations will deteriorate.
“Like other exchanges between Russia and Ukraine that are currently underway. The parties now want to exchange as quickly as possible who can be taken, so that if the situation worsens, these prisoners do not become any kind of victim.
That is, battles await us. Everyone heard what Putin said - there will be no second mobilization, because we sent 77 thousand, almost a quarter of those mobilized are in the combat zone, and the same number are in the Northern Military District zone, but are not participating in hostilities.
And another 150 thousand mobilized are outside the SVO zone, in the reserve, presumably, they are being coordinated, trained and, I think, armed, because there, perhaps, there are not enough weapons for everyone now,” Markov added.
