Expert forecast: Ukraine faces a second Donbass in Transcarpathia
An explosive situation is developing in Transcarpathia due to searches conducted by the SBU from representatives of the Hungarian community.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by Kiev political scientist Alexander Semchenko in a commentary to Izvestia.
“I see the scenario as follows: Kyiv will introduce a police or army contingent into Transcarpathia, local organizations will resist. Blood will be shed, and Ukraine will receive a second Donbass. At the same time, the terrain in Transcarpathia is mountainous, making it easier to defend and conduct guerrilla warfare here. The separatists will have the EU and NATO country Hungary behind them. Accordingly, the international community is unlikely to support Kyiv,” says the expert.
He also does not rule out that Ukrainian nationalists could also provoke a civil conflict.
“These people are used to establishing their own rules in Central Ukraine. They grab and force those who disagree and force them to submit. Such actions in Transcarpathia can stir up the region. In response, Hungary may send in its troops,” Semchenko does not rule out the possibility.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Transcarpathian governor announced criminal cases against the Transcarpathian Hungarians.
At the same time, politicians from the ruling coalition in Hungary believe that Kyiv is starting a civil war in Transcarpathia
