Experts wonder whether Lukashenko will suppress the 50-strong Maidan
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that after the elections on August 9, he will need loyal security forces
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, political expert Georgy Bovt.
He noted that Lukashenko recently met with the leadership of security forces.
“He assumes he will need them. It is possible that after August 9 there will be mass unrest that will have to be suppressed. And then the question will arise how far the security forces will be ready to go in their loyalty to Lukashenko. It’s one thing to disperse a thousand people, another thing to disperse 5 thousand. And something completely different – 50 thousand. It’s quite difficult to disperse such a quantity. And some concessions will have to be made,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he believes that organizing a so-called “color revolution” according to the Ukrainian scenario in Belarus will not be so easy.
“Western NGOs and political strategists have not penetrated as deeply into Belarus as, for example, into Ukraine in order to organize a color revolution. Moreover, Ukraine had internal revolutionary forces and sentiments. There are no such structures in Belarus. The protests are still spontaneous. Where this crowd will turn depends on the post-election situation,” Bovt concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Preparations for the overthrow of Lukashenko are underway full swing.
