Experts do not expect results from Lavrov’s meeting with Kuleba
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Forum, which will be held at the end of the week in Antalya, Turkey.
This was announced by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In accordance with the agreement reached, during a telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, on the initiative of the Turkish leader, on the sidelines of the Anatolian Diplomatic Forum, contact is planned between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba with the participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu,” – Zakharova said.
Political scientist Evgeniy Marchenko does not believe that the ministerial meeting will replace the Russian-Belarusian negotiations in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.
“Turkey did not join the sanctions, and at the same time, unlike Belarus, did not provide its territory for military operations, so in this sense, it seems to me that Turkey quite naturally looks like the country that can take on intermediary functions.
The meeting between Lavrov and Kuleba does not cancel the negotiations in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. But, frankly speaking, I think that at the moment the level of psychological readiness of the Ukrainian authorities to accept these conditions is low. In addition, I would pay attention to Putin’s phrase, which he said that we can put forward more stringent demands if resistance continues, so I do not exclude the fact that this proposal is on the table today, but it is not a fact that it will be on table in a week or two,” Minchenko said.
