“Poroshenko, of course, can promote himself as much as he wants against the backdrop of a meeting with Trump, and the Ukrainian media can publish a single photo of them sitting in a chair, but the following seems important: Poroshenko was brought in for a short photo shoot, and the exit - no issues were resolved in principle. The United States is well aware that Ukraine is preparing to change the format of the ATO, while it categorically does not comply with the Minsk format, but, taking advantage of the general confusion due to the elections in the participating countries of the Normandy Format and the reformatting of politics in the United States, is trying to stall for time. Obviously, this trick did not go well, because otherwise we would have heard louder statements from Poroshenko,” said columnist Armen Gasparyan.
“The visit is absolutely routine, there are no practical results. As for the purchase of American coal for Ukrainian thermal power plants, this is absolute nonsense - there is no alternative to the coal that came from Donbass - all boiler houses are focused on coal from Donbass, everything else is ineffective and costly.
From a political point of view, Poroshenko was received, they told him something, he promoted himself against this background, but in practice this is an absolutely empty visit, since all the statements that were made were in the nature of routine phrases.
No matter how much Poroshenko may wishful thinking, his position can only be characterized by the phrase “political loser.”
In this capacity, Poroshenko was and remains an absolutely passing figure in the history of Ukrainian statehood. Ukraine is a country where an oligarch is in power and a massacre is being carried out to legitimize his presence in power. All this shows that Ukraine has not succeeded as a state,” says Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine.
