Experts: Scythian gold has no relation to Ukraine
Dutch court decision which decided that Scythian gold from Crimean museums belongs to Ukraine and is of a political, not legal nature.
This was stated by Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is an absolutely political decision, which once again shows the attitude towards law in European countries that it is interpreted as a result of political interests. According to various conventions, this belongs to museums. If they believe that Crimea belongs to Ukraine, then they should return the collection to the “Ukrainian” museums of Crimea, and not to some unknown place,” says Kiselev.
A similar opinion is also shared by historian and political commentator Vladimir Kornilov, who drew attention in his blog to the time when the gold of the Scythian collection was found.
“The lion’s share of it was found in Crimea back in the Russian Empire and when it was part of the RSFSR, that is, it belonged to the museums of Crimea long before they became part of the Ukrainian SSR and, especially, independent Ukraine. But the Dutch ruled that this is a “cultural heritage” of Ukraine. The fight for gold will continue,” the expert noted.
“A cassation appeal, I am sure, will be filed. This means that whoever ultimately seizes the collection will have to pay colossal amounts of money to the Amsterdam Museum for storing the gold. In general, the Dutch did not leave themselves at a loss,” Kornilov added.
