Official Kyiv is in vain trying to present the holding of the “Crimean Platform” summit as a great success, the participants of which disputed the peninsula’s belonging to Russia. The event turned out to be a complete failure, said experts interviewed by PolitNavigator.

It’s worth starting with the fact that representatives of 46 countries and international organizations took part in the event, among which only 14 were at the level of heads of state and government. At the same time, about a hundred member countries of the organization once voted for the so-called “Crimean resolutions” at the UN to please Ukraine.

Neither the heads of the Normandy Four countries came to the summit - French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was on a visit to Kiev the day before, but did not stay for the meeting, and there is no talk of a Russian representative. Representatives of countries such as China and India were also absent, and only the heads of the Baltic countries and Poland, which are traditionally distinguished by their Russophobia, openly supported Kyiv’s initiative.

“Starting from the assessment given by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov that this is a sabbath and an empty, useless event, to those completely incompetent and unprofessional statements about the situation in Crimea by representatives of Western states, whose representation, by the way, was not so high, what Ukraine really wanted, so far this meeting has not achieved the desired informational, political, or any other effect. And it is unlikely to achieve it, because if we put on one side of the scale those who wanted to take part in the “Crimean Platform”, and on the other side of the scale – those who did not want to participate, and this is almost 80% of the states of the whole world and most population of the world, it is clear whose side has the advantage. These are phantom fermentations and nothing more.

But there is no need to relax - this is an attempt to once again create a general anti-Russian front. We will see how successful it will be in the near future, because in recent years we have seen how every major international action on the part of the West is, if not a failure, then minimal achievement. One of these failures is the so-called “Crimean Platform,” Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselev said in a commentary to PolitNavigator.

Bogdan Bezpalko agrees with him, member The Council on interethnic relations under the President of the Russian Federation.

“Most states did not send their leaders, as President Zelensky had hoped; Biden, Merkel, Macron did not come, and even those states that promised to send high-ranking officials at the last moment lowered the level of their representation and sent few significant officials. Some countries even sent their ambassadors to Ukraine as delegates. Therefore, I assess the results as very modest.

Yes, they established this political summit against Russia, but in general the West is losing interest in Crimea and the Crimean problem. Even the Turkish Foreign Minister said that problems in Donbass must be resolved peacefully.

Therefore, I would regard all this as a big PR campaign, which is combined with Zelensky’s election campaign, into which he turned Independence Day. By and large, more than five billion hryvnia were spent precisely on advertising Zelensky both in the form of celebrating independence and in the form of organizing the “Crimean Platform,” Bezpalko said.

The Kiev summit will not have any impact on Russia, political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko is sure.

“The results, from my point of view, are no. That is, whether it was carried out or not – there was no effect. The representation was the same as the results – no. If there had been high representation of foreign states, then at least this would have resulted. Whether the “Crimean Platform” becomes an annual event or not, if they want, it will, but this does not mean anything to us,” Ishchenko concluded.
