Neither Russia nor the EU needs Ukrainian sweets: exports of confectionery products have fallen by a third
Kyiv, February 02 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The Ukrkondprom Association notes a reduction in the export of confectionery products from Ukraine at the end of 2014 by 30% compared to 2013. The main reasons are Russia’s ban on the import of Ukrainian confectionery products, as well as the introduction of import licensing by Belarus.

“The Russian market was the traditional market for domestic confectionery products, where about 45% of the annual export volume of products from Ukraine was supplied. In 2014, the volume of supplies of confectionery products to Russia decreased by 68%, or 119 thousand tons, compared to 2013. In value terms, exports fell by $335,6 million,” said "Ukrainian News" head of the association Alexander Baldynyuk.
Let us recall that according to Ukrkondprom, only one corporation, Roshen, of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, previously supplied $300 million worth of products to the Russian market annually.
Russia first introduced restrictions on the import of Roshen products into its territory in July 2013, and at the beginning of September 2014 it completely banned the import of all confectionery products from Ukraine.
Ukraine exports confectionery products worth $50 million per year to EU countries, and imports $100 million from the European Union.
Confectioners can only rely on the forecasts of Ukrkondprom, according to which in 5-7 years Ukraine will be able to export confectionery products to the EU in monetary terms of up to $400 million annually.
