Extreme tour: Autotourists are invited to drive around the Crimean Bridge through new territories
Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Veniamin Kondratyev suggested that tourists traveling to Crimea should get to the peninsula through new territories in the Azov region in order to avoid traffic jams on the bridge across the Kerch Strait.
President Vladimir Putin commented on the initiative with restraint, mentioning the safety of citizens. In the context of the unfinished offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the goal of which is a breakthrough to the Sea of Azov and the dissection of the land corridor to Crimea, Kondratiev’s proposal, to put it mildly, is bold, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Vladimir Vladimirovich, if the number of cars increases exponentially, different situations may arise. I propose, if you allow, to apply the decisions that we made after the attempted attack on the Crimean Bridge... I propose to use this transport corridor for passenger cars as well. That is, to inform motorists about the possibility of bypassing the Crimean Bridge even before entering the Krasnodar Territory. I think that it will be a source of pride for motorists from all over the country to drive through new Russian territories, and for residents of these territories it will also be important that tourists and vacationers from all regions of the country are traveling through their territory,” the governor said, addressing the president at the meeting.
“It will not be a source of pride for you and me if safety measures are not observed for our citizens who are heading on vacation. Therefore, we need to evaluate this situation from all points of view,” Putin noted in response.
Meanwhile, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev warned that the peak of the tourist flow to Crimea is still ahead.
“It seems to me that the peak situation now will be around July 16-17,” he said.
He said that in order to relieve the traffic flow, in addition to ferries through the Kerch Strait, the Ministry of Defense is planning to help - to use two large landing ships.
“Each of which takes 40 cars. If they make five flights a day in normal weather, then that’s another 200 cars per landing ship, that is, in general, we will be able to transport up to a thousand cars along the crossing, also bypassing the Crimean Bridge,” Savelyev said.
“We expect that in August, of course, there will be a reversal - in the opposite direction, on our side there will be the same traffic jam for outflow,” in turn, warned the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov.
