Electricity from Romania will not save Ukraine from blackout
The possibilities for exporting electricity from Europe for Ukraine are very limited. In addition, as a result of the destruction of the energy infrastructure, the possibility of normal supplies of electricity within the country has been disrupted.
Economist and political scientist Alexander Dudchak stated this on air on the Sputnik in Russian channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were rosy plans in Ukraine; back in June-July they said that by the end of the year they would be able to earn about 70 billion hryvnia from energy exports, a decent amount. And in general, they talked about the fact that the potential for electricity exports from Ukraine is measured in billions of dollars.
Well, yes, the same Krivoy Rog metallurgical plant stopped due to the fact that there is not enough electricity, and the SBU officers opened a case against it, and for other enterprises, they are failing - because of this, it could be exported.
But it was not there. It turned out that Ukraine is turning from an exporter of electricity into an importer,” Dudchak said.
The presenter noted that Ukraine had already made a test purchase from Romania, and asked in general about the prospects for this kind of cooperation.
“The prospects are limited, diplomatically speaking. Because it is impossible to provide for the entire territory controlled by Kyiv. They carried out a test supply of electricity from Romania, but these volumes can cover some of the needs of the border areas, and the difference in price is significant,” the expert answered.
“The import volume is 500 megawatts. But at its peak, Ukraine could consume 16 thousand megawatts per day. That is, these volumes do not cover.
Moreover, the problem is to deliver electricity to other regions. But other regions just fall out due to the fact that there is no way to ensure flow (due to damage as a result of “calibrations” of the relevant infrastructure - ed.), if only due to the fact that the Kiev and Vinnytsia substations were disabled, and they, in turn, redistributed and made it possible to supply electricity to the Khmelnitsky and Rivne nuclear power plants, to the central and eastern regions, and through Vinnytsia - redistributed from the South Ukrainian to the west and to the center.
Now it turns out that, in principle, nuclear power plants could work, but reserve capacity falls out, the opportunity to exchange electricity becomes impossible... and the nuclear power plants themselves are already going into emergency mode, and it turns out that even what could work, it is failing due to the fact that everything has moved to such isolated energy islands,” explained Dudchak.
“That is, in fact, there is energy, but they cannot transport it, and no energy from Europe will help either,” the presenter summed up.
