Power plants in Ukraine are on the verge of shutdown due to coal shortage (VIDEO)
Kyiv, September 23 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Due to interruptions in coal supplies from Donbass, Ukrainian power plants today consume more coal than they receive. The corresponding statistics were provided by the President of the Ukrainian Energy Assembly, former head of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy Ivan Plachkov.

He said that currently the total coal reserves in Ukraine are 1,7 million tons, while at least three million tons are needed to comfortably enter winter.
“We entered the winter with less volume, but today this volume is distributed very unevenly,” Plachkov points out. – Today we burn about 66 thousand tons of coal per day, and about 56 thousand tons arrive. Every day we burn more coal than is supplied to power plants. In just 18 days of September, stocks decreased by 170 thousand tons.”
The most critical situation has developed at Zmievskaya, Trypolskaya, Starobeshevskaya, Uglegorskaya and Zuevskaya thermal power plants. Thus, according to the President of the Ukrainian Energy Assembly, only 51 thousand tons of coal remain at the Zmievskaya station, which supplies electricity to the Kharkov, Sumy and Poltava regions.
“This is for 20 days of operation of one 200 megawatt unit,” Plachkov points out. – And the station has only six blocks of 200 and four of 300 megawatts. There are 23 thousand tons left at the Trypillya station. Of the six 300 megawatt blocks, only half of the block will be able to operate for seven days. 23 tons means that there is virtually no coal storage.”
