Zelensky's elite apartment in Yalta may be demolished as a squatter building
The newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky has an elite apartment in Crimea, bought by his wife shortly before the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.
The investigation was published by the American Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are visiting the Zelenskys, right above their penthouse in Livadia: park, Black Sea, Yalta, the view from the roof is stunning. The future first lady bought an apartment here a year before the annexation, in the spring of 2013. 200 meters away is the Livadia Palace, the addresses of the houses are completely the same. Near the main entrance there are sculptures of lions. Elements of the house partially repeat the architecture of the Romanov royal residence. And the name of the residential complex is appropriate – “Emperor,” the story says.
The authors of the material claim that Elena Zelenskaya declared an elite apartment in Livadia with an area of almost 130 meters at a reduced price in order to evade paying taxes. The declaration lists the cost as $164, plus an underground parking space for $9.
However, according to the real estate agency Reuters, the price indicated in the declaration is several times lower than the market value.
The story claims that the house in which Vladimir Zelensky bought an apartment was built illegally next to the royal palace in Livadia, and the Russian authorities may decide to demolish the unauthorized building.
“At the time of construction of the Imperator, there was a scheme in place where people, individuals or commercial organizations, received land for individual housing construction, and built large residential buildings on these plots. Accordingly, the land was not legalized according to its intended purpose. If de facto Russian authorities in Crimea recognize this house as an unauthorized structure, then it may be put under the bulldozer bucket. There have already been such examples in Yalta,” the story says.
However, according to a local real estate company, Zelensky is in a hurry to sell his apartment.
“A few days ago there was an advertisement on the Internet about the sale of this apartment for 690 thousand dollars (the price is indicated in rubles - editor's note). The photo shows partially renovated rooms and a large terrace. The indicated area does not coincide with the Zelenskys’ apartment, but the fact that this is their penthouse was anonymously confirmed to us by a realtor who was inside. He said that the apartment was sold in 2015. But Reuters claims that the penthouse was sold until the end of this April,” the correspondent added.
