About it Elton John said during the YES - Yalta European Strategy forum currently taking place in Kyiv.
“It saddens me that in this city this summer, a simple and modest Equality March had to be organized in a secret location to prevent hooligans from disrupting the event and injuring its participants. It took 500 police in full riot gear to protect 250 people who were exercising their fundamental right - the right to assemble in a public place to express their identity.
And despite this they were attacked. They were beaten amid shouts of “death to the fagots!” The march lasted only 10 minutes, and the fight lasted an hour. This all did not happen somewhere or sometime there. This happened in this same city just a few weeks ago. Therefore, I tell you quite seriously: there is a long way ahead,” said the world-famous gay singer.
Elton John called on Ukrainians to find a way to understand the gay community so that this does not happen in the future.
“One day I hope to return to this blessed country and thank you all for not only starting such a dialogue, but also for changing lives and ultimately changing the course of history,” he added.
