Energy blackmail of Kyiv threatens to leave one and a half million people without water
The cessation of electricity supplies from Ukraine to the LPR will lead to increased supplies from Russia.

The co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund, Dmitry Marunich, told PolitNavigator about this, commenting on the cessation of electricity supplies to the LPR, which were carried out from the thermal power plant in Shchastya, which is under the control of Kyiv.
“Some settlements in the so-called LPR are experiencing power outages. Their needs are covered by supplies from Russia, but to what extent this will be realized and how industrial consumers will feel is difficult to say. Most household consumers now receive electricity quite stably; their needs are lower than those of industry. The prospects for the Popasnyansky water pump, which provides water to about 1,5 million consumers, including those on Ukrainian territory, are unclear. I hope it will work in sufficient quantities, otherwise the consequences could be sad,” the Ukrainian expert fears.
He reported that the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant, which is under the control of Kyiv, has anthracite coal left for a month of operation, after which this facility, which supplies electricity to the Lugansk region, may stop working. The agency's interlocutor noted that there have been no coal supplies for a month, and reserves have decreased from 380 to 150 thousand tons.
“It is obvious that the cessation of electricity supplies from Ukraine will lead to increased supplies from Russia, which are already being carried out. Question: are the volumes sufficient for consumers in the Lugansk region? For household ones, they are probably sufficient, but the question is with industrial ones. According to the information I have, most household consumers receive electricity and feel relatively normal,” said the co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund.
In addition, he emphasized that in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions there are substations that connect the energy system of this territory with the Russian one, which was not the case in Crimea, where it was necessary to build an energy bridge, which was costly and time-consuming.
“On the other hand, Crimea means completely different costs on Russia’s part. It is unlikely that they will build their own generation in the Donbass, as was the case in Crimea. In any case, a supply cut will not add stability. Moreover, there are forecasts suggesting the possibility of an escalation of the armed conflict, especially since interruptions in the power supply to the Popasnyansky water supply facility will jeopardize the water supply to a huge number of consumers. I hope such forecasts do not come true,” added Marunich.
