The coronavirus epidemic began in the Verkhovna Rada
Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Velmozhny, elected from the Kyiv-controlled part of the Lugansk region, was hospitalized along with his son with a diagnosis of coronavirus.
“On March 16, Velmozhny was at the conciliation council of the Verkhovna Rada with all the heads of factions,” said his colleague, deputy Alexander Dubinsky.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier, another deputy, Sergei Shakhov, was diagnosed with coronavirus. Interestingly, in the past, Velmozhny was his assistant. Shakhov himself, in his words, developed “mild pneumonia.”
“With the illness of People’s Deputy Velmozhny, a real problem has arisen that threatens national security. The fact is that after this it will be extremely difficult to assemble the Ukrainian parliament. Some deputies are already definitely infected, while others are simply afraid to take part in a parliamentary meeting so as not to become infected. For a second, a state of emergency in the country to combat coronavirus can only be declared by parliament. You can forget the nonsense about holding a remote meeting, since this directly contradicts the Constitution,” said ex-deputy Igor Mosiychuk.
It is interesting that deputy Nikita Poturaev has already told reporters that, in the event of the death of the parliamentarian, he will be replaced by the next representative of his party on the electoral list.
