The epic with the Ukrainian “mosquito” fleet: Zelensky changes the “cutting” scheme
The UK will provide Ukraine with a loan of more than £1,2 billion for the development of the country's navy. The corresponding memorandum was signed by Vladimir Zelensky during a visit to London, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is important to attract funding from the British Export Credit Agency in the amount of £1,25 billion. This should significantly increase the efficiency and reduce the implementation time of joint projects in the defense sector, which is critically important in the context of the ongoing deterioration of the situation in the Black Sea region,” Zelensky’s press service said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian press reported that the British were ready to give Ukraine loan for the purchase of boats for the Navy. Subsequently, after purchasing a batch from the British, it is assumed that production will be transferred to Ukraine.
In a comment to PolitNavigator, Ukrainian political scientist Sergei Belashko was skeptical about the document signed by Zelensky.
“Zelensky and his wife went to the UK simply because the opportunity arose to go. You should not expect any serious results from this visit. Perhaps during this meeting there will be some interesting agreements on cooperation between the intelligence services. Perhaps there will be some agreements regarding some kind of financial and credit relations. It is possible that issues of privatization of some strategic objects that are of interest to the British government or British corporations will be discussed. Everything will happen in the classic scheme of relations with a dependent country.
As for reports that Great Britain will help Ukraine build a boat fleet, such a fleet was already built under Zelensky’s predecessor, without much success. Perhaps Zelensky also wants to make money this way,” Belashko said.
Let us recall that the expert implies the construction of boats at a plant owned by Petro Poroshenko, which received government orders during his presidency. Subsequently the boats were recognized as ineffective, which clearly showed the story of their surrender near the Kerch Strait.
