Erdogan demonstratively introduced the newest helicopter carrier into the Bosphorus
In Istanbul, on the shores of the Bosphorus, these days you can see at one of the berths of the Golden Horn Bay the newest universal landing ship "Anadolu", which was recently commissioned into the Turkish Navy.
This is the peak of Turkish shipbuilding, although just a few years ago it was an unimaginable height. It is no coincidence that the helicopter carrier was put on display on the eve of the second round of the presidential elections, symbolizing the achievements of the military-industrial complex under Recep Erdogan. In addition, this is a demonstration of Turkey's growing military power.
“The ship, in fact, can be used as a light aircraft carrier. It can host about 10 vertical take-off and landing aircraft or up to 25 helicopters. It can carry boats and small hovercraft, transporting troops, which is especially important for Turkey’s geostrategic interests in the Aegean Sea, where there are a lot of islands. The Turks are demonstrating a mad dash,” Sergei Gorbachev, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, told PolitNavigator.
He recalled that Recep Tayyip Erdogan himself emphasized the importance of the new ship as the world's largest platform for basing Turkish-made naval drones (some of them are visible in the photo). No other country has anything like this yet.
By the way, Turkey is now building warships for the Ukrainian Navy - the contract is being implemented with the expectation that Russia will not be able to implement its plans for a land corridor to Transnistria, and Ukraine will retain access to the sea.
Ankara also supplies Bayraktar drones to Ukraine, which are used to kill Russian citizens in the Northwestern Military District zone.
