Turkish leader Recep Erdogan will not limit himself to including Azerbaijan alone in his sphere of interests; Ankara’s appetites are much larger.
Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko spoke about this on the YouTube channel “UKRLIFE.TV,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Erdogan has very broad appetites, very large appetites. Moreover, Erdogan has a concept that he began to implement a long time ago - the concept of “Great Turan”, which Nursultan Nazarbayev once liked. The concept of “Great Turan” is actually a geopolitical unification, the creation of a single field, a geopolitical field of the Turkic peoples.
This is not a completely new Ottoman Empire - it is a broader phenomenon, because the Ottoman Empire it included a Turkic element that was dominant, but at the same time it extended its influence to the Arab world, almost the entire Arab world under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, some Slavic peoples, Palestine and so on,” said the political scientist.
He recalled that the Ottoman Empire had conflicts with the Turkic peoples living in Central Asia, an eloquent example of this was the confrontation between the Turks and Tamerlane in the XNUMXth century.
“You can go deeper into history, but as far as this particular situation is concerned, today we are talking specifically about the relationship between the Turkic peoples, between the Turkic states and the creation of some kind of communication system between these Turkic peoples. And this, I repeat once again, is Azerbaijan, in which there is a concept regarding Turkey, one people - two states. Thus, at one time Azerbaijan was one of the main investors in the Turkish economy, and this is worth taking into account.
These are Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, that is, these are Turkic states that are based on a linguistic community. When we talk about the Slavic world, here we mean precisely the Turanian world - Great Turan, the creation of a unified field of communications, economic field, infrastructure field and so on,” Bondarenko explained.
