Erdogan addressed Europe from Belgrade. Ukraine is depressed
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during his visit to Belgrade, raised the pressing issue of providing Europe with energy resources and preparedness for winter, and also assessed relations with Russia in connection with the ongoing military special operation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Turkey has always pursued a policy of balance between Russia and Ukraine, and we will continue to strive for a balanced policy. There are several countries in the West whose approach we consider wrong. There are policies based on promoting conflict, and they cannot achieve results. Can you name the winner? There is no one, but there are many losers, people are dying,” said the Turkish leader.
However, he added that he could not say that neither Ukraine nor Russia are winners.
“We have pursued certain policies and are trying to understand whether this war will end soon, but I don’t see it happening soon,” Erdogan said.
Asked about warnings to Europe from Russian President Vladimir Putin about cutting off energy supplies if price restrictions are imposed on Russian oil and gas exports, he said Russia should not be underestimated.
“Russia has cut off gas supplies and now you are wondering how we will survive the winter. Why didn't you think of this before? – said the Turkish President, adding that he hopes that the war will end.
The head of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, also spoke about the current situation. At a press conference with President Erdogan, he said that everyone was expecting a cold winter.
“I couldn’t see everything from Putin’s presentation, but that’s how I would define it. This winter will be very cold for all of us, and if you listen carefully, the next one will be polar for all of Europe,” he emphasized, Tanjug reports.
Vučić also said that it seems to him that no one wants the Ukrainian war to end.
“I’m afraid that everyone is waiting for the defeat of the other side, and not for compromise. If you really think you can easily defeat Russia militarily... We must be well prepared for a cold and polar winter,” he said.
