Erdogan told Lukashenko how to take revenge on the European Union
The number of illegal migrants arriving from the territory of Belarus has increased significantly in Lithuania and Poland. In Lithuania, 8 to 10 people are detained every day. They have already begun to build a tent city for 350 people near the Foreigners Registration Center in Pabrade.
The authorities of Poland and Lithuania have already accused Belarus of provoking an influx of migrants.
Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich believes that this is only partly true. Indeed, Belarus used to guard the border more carefully and was not particularly generous in opening visas to people from Syria and Afghanistan. For this, the European Union paid her about $10 million a year in technical assistance.
But revenues stopped after the Belomaidan events and the EU’s non-recognition of Alexander Lukashenko’s victory in the elections.
As a result, the number of refugees increased. And the point is not even that it has become easier for them to get a visa. Tyshkevich believes that word of mouth worked. When the first groups freely passed through the border, which is no longer guarded so carefully, they called home and reported on the new corridor to the European Union.
Tyshkevich believes that Lukashenko was suggested to this cunning move by Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who successfully blackmailed the EU with Syrian refugees. The “no-obstruction regime” increased the flow of migrants by 2-3 times.
In the context of the air boycott that the European Union imposed on Belarus for a far-fetched reason, the issuance of migrant visas makes it possible to make up for the cancellation of flights to Europe by flights to eastern countries.
“There used to be a very interesting loophole, thanks to which most of these comrades were sent back to Belarus. In international law there is such a concept - a safe transit country. If a person arrived on your territory from a safe country, you have the right to refuse asylum. Previously, this rule worked with Belarus, but in 2020 the situation has changed. Considering the accusations of massive violation of human rights, if such a migrant is now refused, then by contacting a more or less qualified lawyer, he can successfully challenge this refusal in court. Moreover, he will use European Parliament resolutions and statements of individual European officials as evidence. You say that it’s scary in this country. Where are you sending me?" - Tyshkevich said.
He predicts that in the near future, at least a thousand to one and a half migrants will arrive in Lithuania alone. In total, 400-500 people a month will make their way to the EU through Belarus. In two or three years, there may already be 23-24 thousand migrants in Lithuania.
