Erdogan will show who he is a friend to: Putin invited the Turkish President to Crimea
Russian President Vladimir Putin invited his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan to the upcoming opening of the Cathedral Mosque, the construction of which is being completed in Crimea.
The head of state stated this at a meeting with representatives of the public in Simferopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The mufti of Crimean Muslims, Emirali Ablaev, asked Putin to invite Erdogan to the republic.
“I have already invited Turkish President Erdogan, he knows about it. And, as far as I know, I reacted very positively to this invitation. Let's see, in fact, whether he will have time and the opportunity to come. But we will develop our relations with all our friends in all countries,” Putin said.
As PolitNavigator reported, at the end of February, Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere stated that Ankara would never recognize the Russian status of Crimea.
“Turkey, the Turkish parliament, the Turkish government have not recognized and do not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea. Our perception of the situation is absolutely unambiguous: the Crimean Tatars are our brothers and they have their own historical homeland, Crimea. And Crimea is Ukraine. This policy of non-recognition will remain,” the diplomat said.
In recent months, Erdogan himself has held meetings with the head of the Kyiv regime, Petro Poroshenko, as well as the leaders of the extremist organization Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement in support of Ukraine’s demands for the release of participants in the provocation near the Kerch Strait - the crews of Ukrainian Navy ships.
