Erdogan understood: Washington is not a comrade in Idlib
During the aggravation in Idlib, the Turkish authorities were counting on more active support from the United States, the EU and NATO, but Ankara’s hopes did not materialize.
This was stated during a press conference by the head of the department of Eurasian integration and development of the SCO Institute of CIS Countries, military expert Vladimir Evseev.
“The Americans will never fight for the Turks,” he said. “Erodogan had some hopes for this. He was under the illusion that he would be supplied with American Patriot anti-aircraft systems. They are transported by air, they could be delivered. But the Americans and other NATO members do not want to get involved in a conflict where the Russian Federation is one of the parties.”
According to Evseev, the United States is afraid to fight with the Russian Federation and pushed Turkey to do so, but is now disappointed with the agreements between Moscow and Ankara.
“No matter how the situation develops, if it comes to a new round of conflict, and it will most likely be closer to the summer, in this case Erdogan will clearly understand that he needs to negotiate with Russia, and no Donald Trump in Idlib will help him it will be,” the expert believes.
According to Vladimir Evseev, in order to understand this, the Turkish leader had to put a significant number of his soldiers in Idlib.
