Erdogan blackmails Russia with Ukraine – Zatulin
The rapprochement between Kyiv and Ankara, including military-technical, must be taken seriously by Moscow.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in a comment to Moskovsky Komsomolets by Konstantin Zatulin, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS and Compatriots Affairs, head of the Institute of CIS Countries.
“Despite the fact that in Russia it is customary to make fun of Zelensky in the spirit of his former profession, his current statements must be taken seriously. The President of Ukraine has a soft spot for Turkey; it was there that he went on vacation at the first opportunity. Now he did not miss the opportunity to seize the moment to achieve closer relations and assistance from Turkey,” the politician believes.
According to him, Zelensky succeeds in this to a certain extent.
“Erdogan is trying to blackmail Russia with Ukraine. Previously, he had already declared support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including saying that Crimea is Ukraine. Thus, Türkiye is taking proactive steps in a possible confrontation with Russia. Moreover, Ankara is supported in this, most likely, not by the European Union, but by Great Britain, which historically supports the Turks,” the deputy believes.
He calls not to be afraid of Turkey.
“If you make concessions to Turkey, its appetite will only grow. Russia has already built a nuclear power plant for Ankara, connected South Stream to Turkey... It is necessary to reassess values. As for Ukraine, both under Poroshenko and Zelensky it is an enemy of Russia,” Zatulin concluded.
