Turkish President Recep Erdogan, during a visit to Kyiv, supported Ukraine’s territorial claims to Russia, saying that Ankara does not recognize the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation.

At a joint press conference, Vladimir Zelensky voiced accusations against Russia. The Turkish guest made it clear that he was not protesting against Kyiv’s position.

“We talked about the war in Donbass, the annexation of the Crimean peninsula, violation of human rights in Crimea and the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation in the region. In all these issues, Turkey’s consistent support, as well as Ankara’s practical steps in this direction, is extremely important to us.

“Ukraine is counting on Turkey’s assistance in the process of releasing political prisoners, citizens of Ukraine, including Crimean Tatars, who are illegally detained in Crimea and on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the Ukrainian president said.

In turn, Recep Erdogan assured the Ukrainian side of Ankara’s readiness to provide support.

“We approve of the reform processes that are taking place under the leadership of President Zelensky, we share the vision of modernity and modern Ukraine.

Once again, I want to emphasize that we do not support the illegal annexation of Crimea, we fully support and will support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea.

We hope that all conflicts will be resolved peacefully within the framework of international law. We will be ready to do everything to ensure peace and prosperity in our region, including Ukraine. The OSCE observation mission plays an important role in this matter,” added the Turkish leader.
