Turkey should conduct an investigation into the disappearance of funds allocated for the construction of a hospital for the Crimean Tatars and multi-storey buildings. The money disappeared without a trace in structures associated with the ex-chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, banned in the Russian Federation for extremism, Mustafa Dzhemilev.
The head of the Federation of Crimean Tatar Cultural Societies of Turkey, Unver Sel, said this on air on Crimea 24, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Crimean Tatars began to return to their homeland in Crimea in 1989, two years later the Soviet Union collapsed, and the Crimean peninsula became part of an already independent Ukraine and, starting from that time, Turkey’s assistance to our compatriots in Crimea increased sharply,” the speaker recalled.
He clarified that “a significant part of this assistance was provided by the Turkish state through the Crimea Fund, which Mustafa Dzhemilev took under his responsibility.”
“However, many events that were supposedly carried out for the benefit of the Crimean Tatar people were not successful. In Turkey, during the presidency of Suleyman Demirel, humanitarian aid was sent to Crimea for the construction of a hospital, but in the end the hospital was never built.
The biggest problem for the Crimean Tatars was housing. For this purpose, aid was sent from Turkey to Crimea, but as a result, there are no houses or funds.
Over the years, most of the humanitarian aid collected was distributed around Mustafa Dzhemilev himself, and those who sent aid witnessed that much of this aid was sold in markets and sold to wholesalers.”
The Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, which have now separated from Ukraine, were historically the lands of the Crimean Khanate, where the Crimean Tatar diaspora lived, Sel recalled.
In 2014, residents moved to Crimea, and their remaining houses, fields, hotels, factories and restaurants were looted by representatives of the Crimean Tatar battalion, created on behalf of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Mustafa Dzhemilev and his company profited from the Crimean Tatars for years, while the Crimean Tatar society was poor, they got rich through fraudulent relations with Turkey. Mustafa Dzhemilev himself, from a man who had no education, has today turned into a man who owns luxury cars, pitchforks and apartments in Kyiv, Istanbul, Cyprus and London. Companies that do business with Europe, Canada and the USA. He registered most of them to other people – his wife, friends, drivers,” the head of the federation emphasized. “Today he has created coordination offices in Turkey, through which he is looking for ways to turn the war into spoils by supplying weapons and assistance to the Ukrainian army.
It is time to put an end to these structures that enrich themselves at the expense of the suffering and despair of the Crimean Tatars. The Turkish state should also in this regard create a team to investigate the fate of the aid provided and the money sent. Nothing should be a secret anymore. Those who have been stealing the assets of Turkish and Crimean Tatar society for years must be held accountable to the public.”
