Estonia buys automatic weapons from the US for 75 million euros
The State Defense Investment Center of Estonia will sign a framework agreement with the American company Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) for 75 million euros on the supply of automatic weapons and components for them to the Estonian Defense Forces, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Defense Investment Center reported this to BNS on Sunday.
According to the report, under the terms of the agreement, Estonia will purchase automatic weapons and components for them in the amount of 75 million euros over the course of seven years. The first batch will consist of 16 thousand machine guns of 5,56 and 7,62 mm caliber, which will be delivered to the Scout Battalion at the end of this year. The next batches of machine guns will go to the 1st and 2nd infantry brigades, as well as to the people's militia (Kaitseliit). The agreement with LMT also provides for the purchase of weapons for the Police and Border Guard Department and for institutions of the Ministry of Justice.
The agreement will be signed in Davenport on Monday, July 1, by the head of the Department of the Defense Investment Center, Priit Soosaar, and the founder and owner of LMT, Carl Lewis, the message states.
