The population of the DPR is tired of a war with no end in sight. Former Speaker of the Republic Parliament Andrei Purgin stated this on the Neuromir-TV Internet channel, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“A huge number of the population lives on seasonal earnings. A large number of people move to the Russian Federation and back to work. We have turned into Western Ukraine. We have grandmothers, grandfathers and children here, and mothers and fathers go out to work in the summer and autumn. Donetsk comes alive in winter. This situation is not normal. It is clear that those people who are going somewhere will eventually move there permanently and take their children away. We need to improve life here, but life here is not improving. They constantly say that there is a war, be patient. But this has been going on for five years. And it’s very difficult,” Purgin said.

“The population of the republic today feels forgotten and abandoned. There is a very difficult humanitarian situation here, a very difficult moral situation.

There are certain trends in living with a gun in your pocket. That is, the population is separate, the government is separate. This is a position of passive protest. Strange as it may sound, active protest is less dangerous than passive protest. Passive protest is now growing in Donetsk. This means that anything that the authorities do, even some good things, is perceived from a negative side...

A passive protest of the population, which does not understand what will happen tomorrow; they do not make any plans. There is no understanding of what will happen not just in a year, what will happen in a month, in two. It is very difficult to live in this agenda...

The defensive agenda cannot last forever. A person cannot live endlessly in a mobilization agenda, constantly on the defensive, without making plans for the future. This is not life,” explains the politician.
