“We can’t stomach these people anymore.” Ukrainian experts do not believe in the return of the LDPR
Both the Ukrainian media and the expert community understand perfectly well that the residents of Donbass want an existence separate from the Kyiv authorities.
This, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is evidenced by an interview with the Deputy Director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Evgeniy Golovakha, to the Kyiv online publication Zerkalo Nedeli.
“Why are people not ready to cut off Donbass? After all, the majority already understands that with all the changes that have occurred in the heads of people there, we will no longer be able to digest it, and still the Ukrainians are not ready to cut off the territory. In all surveys, people say that this is our land, but very few say that these are our people,” the publication asked.
According to the sociologist, in this way Ukrainians allegedly demonstrate “state thinking.”
“Ask me, and I’ll tell you honestly. I understand that it will be more and more difficult to return these people to Ukraine every year. But I don’t think that we should admit that lands are not part of our territories, and people are not part of our people. As soon as we admit this, our state will crumble. Therefore, despite all the difficulties...”, the publication’s interlocutor said.
At the same time, he does not rule out that in the future, “if Ukraine becomes a rich country with the ability to provide enormous social benefits to its citizens, and Russia continues to stagnate,” then “it is not a fact that people in the occupied territories will not change their orientation.”
