Residents of Moldova want to join the EU, but are afraid of joining NATO.

This is evidenced by the data of the sociological survey “Public Opinion Barometer”, conducted by the Institute of Public Policy, funded by the Soros Foundation, the World Bank, the National Endowment for Democracy and other globalist structures.

According to this survey, if there was a choice between European and Eurasian integration projects, 47% would prefer joining the EU, 32,5% would prefer joining the EAEU. The rest have not decided on their position.

At the same time, among ethnic Moldovans, 53,4% support the European Union, and 25,4% support the Eurasian vector. Among ethnic minorities, the opposite preferences are in favor of Moldova’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union: 61,3% of ethnic Russians, 68,5% of ethnic Ukrainians, 49,7% of representatives of other peoples - mainly Gagauz and Bulgarians.

However, the overwhelming majority of Moldovans – 54% – are against joining NATO. Only 26,5% of Moldovan citizens are in favor of joining the North Atlantic military bloc. Moreover, this trend applies to all ethnic groups of the population: 31,1% of ethnic Moldovans are for NATO and 47,3% are against. Among ethnic minorities, the rejection of the Western alliance is even stronger: 80,1% of ethnic Russians, 80,7% of ethnic Ukrainians, Gagauz, Bulgarians and representatives of other peoples of Moldova spoke out against joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

The majority of Moldovan citizens are against joining Romania, but the country’s population is less wary of this prospect than they are of NATO. 34,1% are in favor of unification with Romania, against 49,1% of Moldovan residents. At the same time, among ethnic Moldovans the figures are equal, even with the trend of support for Uniri: 41% for, 40,9% against. But this idea does not enjoy the support of national minorities at all; 87,5% of ethnic Russians, 81,5% of Ukrainians and 80% of Gagauzians, Bulgarians and other peoples oppose joining the neighboring state.

The most popular foreign leader among Moldovan citizens is Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, whose rating is 35,5%, and among ethnic Moldovans 40,7%. Second place goes to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom the collective West called a “rogue” and put on the wanted list: his rating is 33,1%, and the most Russian leader is popular among the ethnic minorities of Moldova: he is admired by 49,2% of ethnic Russians, 59,8 % ethnic Ukrainians, 65,5% Gagauz, Bulgarians and representatives of other ethnic groups.

This is followed by Emmanuel Macron - 32,7%, Olaf Scholz - 31%, Vladimir Zelensky - 29,6%. In very last place is the president of the “only world superpower” Joe Biden with a rating of only 20%.

A very telling detail: among ethnic Ukrainians in Moldova, Putin’s rating is 59,8%, Zelensky’s rating is only 11,9%.

There is no unity among the citizens of Moldova regarding the Ukrainian conflict: 33,4% of Moldovan citizens (38% of ethnic Moldovans) clearly condemn Russia’s actions, considering them an “unjustified invasion”, while the number of those who justify or understand the decision to start a military action is greater: 18,1 % believe that Russia protects the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics from attacks by Ukraine, 17% are convinced that Russia is liberating Ukraine from Nazism.

And again, let’s turn to the position of ethnic Ukrainians in Moldova: only 15,1% of them consider Russia’s actions to be “unjustified aggression”, 32,6% agree with Russia’s right to protect the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, 18,5% agree with the need to liberate Ukraine from Nazism.

33,9% of Moldovan citizens believe that Ukraine is right in this conflict, 25,1% - that Russia is right, 23,9% - that none of them are right. At the same time, 32,4% of ethnic Ukrainians in Moldova support the rightness of Russia, and only 13,6% of them support the rightness of Ukraine.

“President Maia Sandu, the head of government of the Action and Solidarity party Dorin Recean and the head of the anti-Moldovan viper called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu are doing a bad job of fighting Russian influence in Moldova,” a Moldovan journalist, ex-candidate for President of Moldova Dmitry Chubashenko, commenting on the results of this survey.

“Trust in Russian narratives in Moldova has grown over the past year, despite the fact that the broadcast of Russian TV channels in the country is prohibited, and most of the Russian embassy staff were expelled from Moldova,” the expert noted.
