“This will be a breakthrough” - Lukashenko arrived in Moscow and started talking with slogans
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko arrived in the Kremlin for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The presidents announced that they intend to finally discuss integration programs within the Union State, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Apparently, the experts have indeed agreed on some key areas; we need to compare notes and put an end to some issues. And to give governments the opportunity in the very near future, even they are already meeting in Minsk tomorrow, to finalize some of these agreements.
What we, I hope, will agree on today is not connected with any current political situation in our countries or with the political calendar on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Russia. This is our ongoing, long-standing collaboration over many years. I am very glad to see you and I hope we will work properly today,” Putin carefully formulated.
“We have less work left than in our previous meetings. They lasted 5-8 hours. Then it was not necessary, like bulldozers, to clear the way for governments and experts. They kept running into problems that they could not solve,” Lukashenko said.
He noted that the work was carried out “at the request of the people,” who criticized the authorities for the lack of dynamics in the development of the Union State.
“We decided to respond and drew more than 30 roadmaps. Presented schematically. Then, while working on these maps, we came to the conclusion (more than a year ago) that we need specific plans, and not some schemes, and we switched to union programs. And today it turns out that we are ready to discuss 28 programs at the last stage. That's a lot.
These are the main major topics and areas of our cooperation in order to give governments the opportunity tomorrow to consider them again at the expert and governmental level. If they accept, then at the Supreme State Council, as we agreed with you (maybe at the end of October), we will finally adopt these programs,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
“This will be a breakthrough. A breakthrough in many areas. It's not a secret. We will publish these programs and show in what areas we have worked,” the Belarusian president emphasized.
According to him, the coordination of integration programs is not related to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Russia.
“What does this have to do with elections? Well, if we did something good, let it be a gift for this big election holiday, if the people appreciate it. Well, people know better, so why not, we are moving like all civilized countries. Only together, only in union, native states, close peoples. Almost a single people: both Russians and Belarusians come from the same root. We do our job, and let them evaluate us,” Lukashenko summed up.
