“This is a historical moment” – an agreement was signed on the production of Sputnik V in Serbia
The Belgrade Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums Torlak has concluded an agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Russian pharmaceutical company Generium on the procedures and technologies necessary for the production of Sputnik V in Serbia.
This was reported by Politika, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From now on, all data on the production of the Sputnik V vaccine, developed by the most famous Russian Institute of Virology, Gamaleya, is open to Torlak,” said Nenad Popovic, Minister of Innovation and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation with Russia. “We are talking about sensitive and confidential data that can only be exchanged between partners who have enormous mutual trust.”
He announced that three validation runs of Sputnik V will be produced at the Torlak Institute in April.
“Samples from these validation batches will be sent for quality control to the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow. Once the Gamaleya Institute confirms the suitability of the samples produced at Torlak, the Torlak Institute begins production of the vaccine. We expect this to happen by May 20 of this year,” Popovich explained.
He noted that in this way Serbia will become the first country in Europe to produce the Sputnik V vaccine.
The Serbian minister expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government, the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the Gamaleya Institute, the Generium company and the Torlak Institute, which gave Serbia the opportunity to produce coronavirus vaccines on its territory.
“This is a historic moment for our country. Thanks to our Russian friends, Serbia will be able to save the lives and health of its citizens. And what is very important, this is the beginning of the restoration of our country’s sovereignty in the production of vaccines, which in the future will become an important resource for every country,” Popovich concluded.
