“This is rudeness”: Pashinyan “forgot” about the Russian flag at a meeting with Lavrov
The Armenian side “forgot” to unfurl the Russian flag in the hall where the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived from Moscow, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took place.
Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov drew attention to this in his blog, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Is this a demonstration? Or is it just sloppiness on the part of the host?” – Martynov commented on the photo taken at the beginning of the negotiations between Lavrov and Pashinyan, which was published by Foreign Ministry speaker Maria Zakharova.
Interestingly, the Sputnik agency asked for a comment from the Armenian Foreign Ministry, which assured that there was no violation of the protocol. Allegedly, the presence of only the Armenian flag emphasized the status of the negotiations between the Russian minister and the head of state. When Lavrov met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan, the Russian flag was present.
Martynov considers such explanations of the Armenian Foreign Ministry unsatisfactory.
“The head of state in the parliamentary republic of Armenia is the president, his last name is different, and this is just the chairman of the government,” he recalled.
“It seems to me that this is a question of at least respect... This is rudeness, for sure,” says Martynov.
