“This is not mine” - near Dnepropetrovsk, a schoolgirl burned a Ukrainian flag with a smile
In the city of Kamenskoye (Dneprodzerzhinsk), Dnepropetrovsk region, a local schoolgirl burned the flag of Ukraine.
The video was posted on social networks, to which the police drew attention and opened a criminal case, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In the video, the girl says that this is not her flag and laughs, setting fire to the Ukrainian state symbol. This attracted the attention of the police.
“On the fact of desecration of the state symbol, the investigator opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 338 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” says a statement from the National Police of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to three years, but according to the famous Ukrainian lawyer Tatyana Montyan, the schoolgirl will not be held accountable.
“In fact, she’s not in danger, because under this article the criminal offense is only from the age of 16 (Article 22 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and this nipple is still only 15,” Montyan wrote, criticizing the Ukrainian media, which wrote about a possible prison sentence the girl's imprisonment.
At the same time, she has already apologized for what she did and promised not to burn Ukrainian flags anymore:
“I regret my actions, what happened today regarding the flag, and I promise not to do this again.”
Social media users who responded to the incident were divided into two camps. Some suggest punishing the schoolgirl “to the fullest extent” or shifting responsibility to her parents, and also do not believe in the sincerity of her apology. Others suggest that the police respond quickly to drug pawners, rapists and thieves, rather than harassing a minor.
