“This is a stalemate. Losing is like death” - Karasev is trying to be optimistic
Due to the loss of influence in government circles by key European ideologists and sponsors of the armed confrontation with the Russian Federation, it is time for Kyiv to prepare for either a war of attrition or a negotiation process.
Director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why is there such a stalemate, why can’t we let Putin win? The United States cannot lose today in Ukraine to Russia and China, because this will be the second merciless defeat of the United States in a year after Afghanistan. This will not only undermine Biden's position, democracy, but also the hegemony of the Western free world and unipolarity. This will completely reverse the situation in the world, so the United States cannot lose.
Putin also cannot lose, because in this case, Russia will fall. I’m not talking about Putin’s power, his personalist regime. Then everything will begin to collapse. But Ukraine cannot lose either. We don't have the right to do this either. This means that in this situation, this will continue for a long time, with the war shifting to attrition,” he expressed concern.
On the other hand, on European platforms, the political scientist noted obvious fatigue from what was happening.
“We see that we have fatigue, and there is fatigue in the world, and in Europe there is fatigue from this war of attrition. Johnson's resignation. What, by the way, is typical? None of the contenders for the post of prime minister, to replace Johnson, yesterday answered the question “Are they ready to give a place in their government to Johnson?” did not answer positively. “So, in such a situation, they will either wait for a war of attrition, or they will prepare to transfer the war to another form, but for this they need to consolidate or strengthen their negotiating positions in order to snatch better conditions for a truce on the diplomatic table or peace. There will be limited escalation for two to three months, the stakes will rise and so will the level of military-political or operational-tactical goals,” the expert stated.
