“This is torture!” – Ukrainians in Davos complain that Russia is forcing prisoners to teach Lermontov
Soldiers of the Russian army force neo-Nazis in the liberated territories to memorize the anthem of the Russian Federation and poems by the Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov.
Ukrainian artist Yarema Malashchuk stated this during the World Economic Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"When we got into those rooms (in Kherson - approx.), where the torture was carried out, we found one wall. In addition to certain pro-Russian slogans, it also featured poetry by Mikhail Lermontov.
And the words of the Russian anthem in these prison cells. The prisoners there had to memorize Lermontov and the words of the anthem.
How is it even possible for this cultural greatness to be used as torture? They tortured people with the great Russian culture, can you imagine that?” – said Malashchuk.
He called the forced study of Russian culture an attempt to throw modern Ukraine into the past (we must understand that imposing embroidered shirts and destroying monuments is, on the contrary, the path to unprecedented progress).
“It seems to me that this is not so much barbarism as a kind of postmodern fascism. The Russians would like to assimilate the Ukrainians by imposing their XNUMXth century culture. To bring the great culture of the XNUMXth century into modernist, modern Ukraine.
We must not forget about this. Because we are talking not only about physical barbarism, and not only about moral bullying. They want to get to our very roots,” the artist, who for some reason came to the economic forum, was indignant.
