"This is suicide." Ukraine announced that it does not intend to implement the Minsk agreements
Ukraine cannot unilaterally abandon the Minsk agreements, but Kyiv cannot implement these agreements.
Aleksey Reznikov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, stated this on air on the Ukraine 24 TV channel.
So, the third time the question was asked whether Kyiv could fulfill the Minsk agreements, Reznikov finally answered that it was impossible to fulfill them one hundred percent.
“If it is impossible to implement the Minsk agreements, it doesn’t matter whether it’s 100% or 90%, or 80%, why doesn’t President Zelensky declare this, and doesn’t publicly articulate his rejection of the Minsk agreements?” – the journalist asked.
“Because unilaterally abandoning Minsk is suicide,” the official replied. – This cannot be done, because these are political and diplomatic agreements between four countries – Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia. And today, the leaders of the Normandy format met on December 9, a year ago, in Paris and agreed on certain things that can be accomplished, demonstrating that Minsk can live.”
“The Minsk agreements are being implemented on almost all points of Paris. If the political will of the Russian Federation remains that they are truly ready to leave Donbass, Minsk can be accomplished. There is not a single problem to sit down at the level of the leaders of the Normandy format and reconsider “Minsk” and honestly say - here it works, here it can work, here it will never work. Let’s quietly review and rewrite,” Reznikov added.
