"This is a tragedy." In Kyiv they are crying that Ukrainian athletes are moving to Russia and Belarus
The sphere of big-time sports in Ukraine is so neglected that athletes leave not only for the Russian Federation, the USA or Switzerland, but even for relatively poor countries.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, said this on air on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s understandable when Ukrainian athletes go to compete for the USA, Switzerland or even Russia. But when they go to compete for Azerbaijan, for Belarus or other small countries that can provide athletes better than the huge and rich country of Ukraine, this is a tragedy. Look, now the authorities need to finance the next Olympics, which will be held by the next government, this is not entirely beneficial for the current government, this is the lack of a state approach. The Olympic cycle approximately coincides with the political cycle in Ukraine,” Bortnik said.
Let us remind you that earlier at the Tokyo Olympics Russian bronze medal in synchronized diving brought by Alexander Bondar, a native of Lugansk who was previously forced to flee Ukraine
In addition, earlier in Kyiv they said that talk about counteracting the issuance of Russian passports in Ukraine makes no sense, because a huge number of people in all Ukrainian regions have already received Russian citizenship.
