This is not Ukraine: Germany realized that Russia will not give up Belarus
Russia is the guarantee that the West will not actively interfere in events in Belarus, as it did in Ukraine.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on radio Baltkom, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert recalled that Belarus, unlike Ukraine, is a member of the CSTO and is connected by a number of alliances with Russia.
“Let us remember the events in Ukraine, they were completely different, they developed differently. Firstly, there was a very large politically and geopolitically minded crowd of people, a really very organized opposition, which demanded Ukraine’s departure from Russia directly towards NATO and the European Union.
Secondly, there were representatives of Western political circles who also rallied along with the protesters in the square.
Thirdly, Belarus, we must not forget, is still an ally of Russia in economic terms. Belarus is part of the Eurasian Economic Union and Military Union, CSTO, and Ukraine was not part of any alliance with Russia, it was a neutral state. Therefore, it will be much more difficult for the West to intervene in Belarus, if it wants to, than in Ukraine. It is precisely because of the allied relations that exist between Minsk and Moscow,” Rahr said.
