“This is all optional” - the PMR authorities, just in case, disavowed their desire to go to Russia
Transnistria does not plan to turn to Russia with a request to include the republic in its composition.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev stated this in an interview with the Russian-American TV channel RTVI, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Moreover, the minister denies that the people of Transnistria expressed a desire to unite with Russia in the 2006 referendum.
“No, that didn’t happen. The 2006 referendum was dedicated to the choice of a strategic path for the development of Transnistria. There, on September 17, 2006, the population of Transnistria spoke out for the independence of Transnistria. For independent development and subsequent free accession to Russia - this was the wording. It’s like an optional feature,” Ignatiev said.
Let us note that the question, to which in 2006 97% of Transnistrian residents answered in the affirmative, sounded like this: “Do you support the course towards independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the subsequent free accession of Pridnestrovie to the Russian Federation?”.
“They will contact us immediately after the liberation of Odessa and the part of Bessarabia occupied by Ukraine. If the Sandu regime does not make any sudden movements and holds out until this historical moment,” Russian publicist Sergei Mardan commented on the minister’s interview in his tg channel.
