The UN is ready to provide all its capabilities for the evacuation of civilians allegedly located there from Azovstal.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated this today at a joint press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are faced with a crisis within a crisis in Mariupol. Hundreds and thousands of civilians are in need of humanitarian assistance, many requiring evacuation. The UN is ready to fully mobilize its human and logistical resources to save people. “I proposed to coordinate the work of the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Ukraine and Russia to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians from the territory of Azovstal in any direction they choose,” Guterres said.
He also took the initiative to create a contact group on humanitarian issues, which would include the UN, Russia and Ukraine.
