Yeltsin centers are powerless: The pro-Soviet trend is intensifying in Russian society
Most Russians regret the collapse of the Soviet Union.
This is evidenced by data from a poll conducted between November 22 and 28 by Levada Center, who is recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The survey involved citizens of the Russian Federation aged 18 years and over from 136 settlements of the Russian Federation.
Thus, 66% were nostalgic for the USSR versus 25% of those who do not regret the collapse of the Union. Sociologists note that this is the highest figure in the last 13 years. It is noteworthy that over the past year the number of supporters of the Soviet Union has grown by 8% and has increased by 10% compared to 2016.
Most of all, Russians regret the destruction of a single economic system - 52%, the feeling of belonging to a great power - 36%, and are upset by the growth of mutual distrust and bitterness - 31%. At the same time, 60% of respondents are confident that the collapse of the Soviet Union could have been avoided.
“The trend towards increasing nostalgia for the Soviet Union is becoming more and more noticeable - in 2018, the share of those who “regret” was 2,5 times higher than those who do not miss Soviet times (66% versus 25%, respectively). It is worth emphasizing that this is the most significant polarization of opinions in the last ten years of public opinion measurements,” the study says.
