Epiphany declared Filaret outlawed
Coming from the non-canonical UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the so-called Primate of the OCU Epiphanius (Sergei Dumenko) forbade the leader of the UOC-KP Philaret to perform tonsure and ordination, declaring these actions invalid.
This was reported by the press service of the OCU, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Epiphany recalled that Filaret in the OCU is considered an “honorary patriarch” and is deprived of the right of a ruling bishop.
“This means that you, as a retired bishop, are prohibited from performing actions that are the exclusive prerogative of the reigning bishop, including the blessing of monastic vows, ordination to any sacred office, the awarding of church awards, issuing documents for the appointment and dismissal of clergy and other church officials, and convening church meetings and lead them to resolve any issues,” says Epiphany’s message to Filaret.
“Based on this and having the corresponding confirmation in the above-mentioned resolution of the Holy Synod, I am once again forced to warn you that any service performed by you and under your leadership in the rank of episcopal ordination, as performed in a state of prohibition, is anti-canonical and over persons who were not appropriately elected by the Church for episcopal service, is not recognized as valid now and cannot be recognized in the future,” added the head of the OCU.
Previously Filaret declared the deception and emphasized, that in the history of the provision of the Tomos of the OCU, Primate Epiphanius and ex-President Petro Poroshenko acted to serve their personal interests.
