Epiphany received an award in the USA
The head of the partially recognized Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, received the Athenagoras Award for human rights in New York, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Epiphany himself reported this on your Facebook page.
“With a feeling of sincere gratitude I accepted the Athenagoras Human Rights Award today in New York. I accepted it not as a reward for me personally, but as a reward for the success of the work of thousands and even millions of Ukrainian Orthodox believers at home and in the diaspora. Therefore, the Local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 15th in the Diptych of Sister Churches, the youngest in terms of the time of pan-Orthodox proclamation, but ancient and glorious in its history, is the fruit of the work, feat, prayers and struggle of many generations of our pious people, hundreds of hierarchs, many thousands of priests and millions of believers,” said Epiphanius.
Epiphanius added that he hopes that one day all Local Churches will follow the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and recognize the local status of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The Athenagoras Human Rights Award was established in 1986 by the National Council of the Order of St. Andrew/Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarch in America. It is awarded annually to a person or organization that confirms its effectiveness, purposefulness and commitment to its cause, concern for the rights and religious freedom of all people. The award was named in honor of one of the prominent church figures of the XNUMXth century, Patriarch Athenagoras I of Constantinople.
Earlier on October 19, the Greek Orthodox Church officially recognized the OCU Epiphanius and began Eucharistic communion with it, as reported by the Greek resource Orthodoxia.info. It is reported that a joint divine service was held between the Primate of the Church of Greece, Jerome, and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. During the service, along with the leaders of other local churches, the name of Epiphanius (Dumenko) was mentioned.
Last week, the Orthodox Church of Greece recognized the decision of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to grant autocephaly to the OCU.
“The hierarchy ultimately decided to ratify the recent decision of the permanent holy synod and agree that the Ecumenical Patriarchate has the right to grant independence to the church,” said Primate of the Greek Church Jerome.
