The EU announced “full solidarity” with Britain in the conflict with Russia over the “Skripal case”
The European Union intends to confirm full solidarity with the UK and announce its “updated policy” towards Russia, taking into account the incident with the poisoning of former Russian GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Federica Mogherini, before the start of today's meeting of the heads of the EU foreign ministers, dedicated to the “Russian” issue and the conflict in Ukraine, Radio Liberty reports.
“We will hear a report from British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, with whom I have been in contact since the first day of the incident. EU ministers will hold a discussion and I expect that we will express an updated common position of the 28 Commonwealth states,” announced the head of European diplomacy.
In her opinion, the European Union will express its full solidarity with Britain’s position in the case of the poisoning of a former Russian spy with a military chemical.
“We will show Britain our unity, our full support and our utmost concern, because what happened is absolutely unacceptable,” Mogherini said.
Let us recall that earlier British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson said that, according to his information, the order to poison Skripal could allegedly have been given personally by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite the fact that the British have no evidence of this version, today this is the official position of the authorities of this country.
