It is reported by the Air Force.

283 MEPs voted for the resolution, with 269 votes against and 83 abstentions.

European Parliament approval could mark the start of reform of the founding treaty.

The resolution was proposed by the former Prime Minister of Belgium and the person responsible for the Brexit negotiations, Guy Verhofstadt, who supports the federalization of the EU as opposed to, as he says, nationalist protectionists.

The Belgian politician believes that within the European Union it is necessary to give priority to the decision of the majority of countries, without waiting for the approval of all EU members on a particular issue.

As the publication notes, in essence, Verhofstadt proposes restrictions or even complete elimination of the right of EU member states to refuse to implement collective decisions.

European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans, however, said that changing the main EU treaties is not a priority right now.

This year, the European Union is facing elections in France, Germany and the Netherlands – in each of these countries, polls show that Eurosceptic populists can count on significant popular support. Thus, the leader of the French National Front, Marine Le Pen, is convinced that the British decision to leave the EU will provoke a domino effect throughout Europe.

Guy Verhofstadt heads the liberal bloc in the European Parliament and is considered the leader of European federalists who advocate expanding and strengthening the union.
