The EU brought the Ukrainian Carpathians to disaster
recent flood in the Carpathian region was the result of large-scale deforestation in the Carpathians, and this would not have happened if Ukraine had maintained a moratorium on the export of round timber, the abolition of which was demanded by the EU.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this on the NEWSONE TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is happening there now is not today’s results or even a year ago. For many years, especially the last 6 years, forests have been destroyed, and it must be said that the EU played an important role in this, which categorically demanded that Ukraine exclude a moratorium on the export of round timber. This is absolute, XNUMX% arrogance.
The Ukrainian authorities believe that these forests need to be preserved, but the EU says: “If you want us to treat you well, remove all restrictions.” Try to deal with the authorities like this in Europe, it’s generally impossible, but here it’s possible.
I’m not even talking about what’s happening in the Rivne region, they wash amber there, and they also destroyed a large area. And all this continues today. But the heyday has occurred over the past six years,” the political scientist said.
