The EU demands that Poroshenko implement the Minsk agreements and turn Ukraine into a confederation, expert
The transfer of local elections to the LDPR is being carried out in order to push Petro Poroshenko to implement the Minsk agreements, the result of which will be the transformation of Ukraine into a confederation.
The head of the Kyiv branch of the Institute of CIS Countries, Denis Denisov, told PolitNavigator about this.

“The negotiations held in Paris in the Normandy format can be considered a major success of Russian diplomacy and the positions of the LDPR. Finally, European leaders “saw the light” and saw that the Ukrainian government was not fulfilling its obligations. This was stated repeatedly at these negotiations. In particular, that the LDNR side is not involved in agreeing on key documents. And now from Europe there is an expectation that the Ukrainian authorities will accept changes to the Constitution agreed with the LDPR, adopt a law on special status and adopt a law on elections in the territory of Lugansk and Donetsk.
Postponing the elections to next year is an act of goodwill on the part of the LDPR, a demonstration of readiness for compromise. But the postponement of the elections means that the Minsk format is being extended into 2016.
Then Kyiv will have to fulfill its obligations. If this happens, this means at a minimum a confederal Ukraine in the future - with the broadest powers of the Donbass, and subsequently, possibly, other regions of the former Soviet republic. Otherwise, there is no other way,” Denisov concluded.
