The EU is losing a lot by not including Russian as an official language - Senator
Politicians in the post-Soviet space and some EU countries often forget that Russian-speaking citizens of their states sometimes even make up the majority of the population.
Chairman of the temporary commission of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty Andrei Klimov stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If someone would like to take advantage of our modern Russian achievements in any field from space to ecology, of course, it is more convenient to do this if they know the Russian language,” Klimov said. “In order to live in rhythm, it’s almost the middle of the XNUMXst century, I would recommend supporting the Russian language,” Klimov said.
“Because this is not only the task of the Russian Federation. Any forward-thinking politician in the post-Soviet countries must understand that without this it will be difficult for themselves. For them, this is an advantage that some so persistently refuse. And they should develop this advantage and use it as fully as possible,” the senator recommended.
As an example, he cited the fact that the UK’s exit from the EU did not at all mean a rejection of the English language in the European Parliament and other bodies
“But there are millions of Russian-speaking citizens in the EU, more of them than live in some EU countries, and in some EU states, people who can speak and think freely in Russian are the majority of their citizens. But Russian is not an official language of the EU. I think this is one of the disadvantages for the EU,” the politician concluded.
